Janet Blazek Acker

Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Ms. Acker comes from a home with a great love and appreciation of music. Her aunt was a professor of piano, pipe organ and theory.   She studied piano, organ and theory with Ruth Musil Giger and piano with Harold Payne at U.N.O.  She had extensive training in Suzuki Piano and later became a certified Kindermusik teacher.  She studied piano pedagogy with Dr. James Johnson of University of Nebraska at Omaha and with Jackson Berkey of Mannheim Steamroller.

 

Mrs. Acker taught for 40 years in Omaha, Nebraska and is now teaching in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

 

Ms. Acker has served as an adjudicator for regional piano contests including the National Piano Guild, Nebraska MTA, Iowa MTA, South Dakota MTA, Nebraska Summer Music Olympics, Nebraska FMC, Iowa FMC and PMTA in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

 

She is a past president of the Omaha Music Teachers Association and the Nebraska Federation of Music Clubs. She has served on the boards of the Nebraska Music Teachers Association, the Nebraska and National Federation of Music Clubs and the Nebraska Summer Music Olympics.  She is currently on the board of the Milwaukee Music Teachers Association and serves as President of the Milwaukee Area Piano Teachers Association.

 

Ms. Acker has served as guest lecturer at the State Convention of the South Dakota Music Teachers Association and the Piano Pedagogy Classes at the University of Nebrasaka at Omaha.  She is a past National Board Member and past National Chairman for the N.F.M.C. Junior Composers Contest.  She is a Certified Teacher of Piano by the American College of Musicians and an Honorary Member of the Tri-M Society by Central High School, Omaha, Nebraska.  She is a Life Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
